Purpose
The purpose of the Friends of the Murray Centre for the Performing Arts is to raise funds for the construction, maintenance and administration of activities for and in the Murray Centre for the Performing Arts - a venue to serve the needs of the various performing arts groups in Murray City and the local area.
The Need
Murray's community performing arts groups rely on the amphitheater in the summer, and overbooked schools in the winter. With inadequate rehearsal and performance space, some kinds of productions are impossible in the winter. Storage space for sets is nonexistent, so old sets have to be thrown away, and groups start over each year from scratch. Expensive musical instruments are stored in trailers and sheds.
Community Space
Murray's community spaces are also limited. Libraries and schools have places for small gatherings and meetings; however, school spaces are limited to after-school activities, and are often already in use during the school year. Murray City hosts its annual volunteer dinner at Midvale's Gathering Place, because Murray does not have a space large enough.
